Tesla is once again giving its customers a unique opportunity to transfer their Full Self-Driving (FSD) capability to a new vehicle. Effective today, October 10, 2024, Tesla has relaunched FSD Transfers, enabling eligible buyers to bring their existing FSD package over to a new Tesla model—so long as the vehicle is delivered by December 31, 2024. This is great news for existing Tesla owners in both the United States and Canada who are looking to upgrade to a new Model S, Model 3, Model X, or Model Y while retaining the value of their FSD investment.
Eligibility Details: What You Need to Know
For those considering taking advantage of this offer, there are a few important eligibility requirements to keep in mind:
Delivery Deadline: The new Tesla vehicle must be delivered by December 31, 2024.
Same Tesla Account: Both the existing VIN (vehicle identification number) and the new order must be on the same Tesla account.
Ineligibility: Vehicles with a total loss or salvaged title, as well as current leased Teslas, are not eligible for FSD transfer. Additionally, new titled B2C (business to consumer) vehicle orders qualify, but trade-in vehicles will not have FSD included in their valuation.
No Trade-In Requirement: Owners do not need to trade in their existing Tesla with FSD to transfer the package. However, if the existing vehicle is traded in, the FSD value will not be factored into the trade-in valuation.
Stackable Incentives: This incentive can be combined with inventory adjustments and other existing incentives (if eligible), but it cannot be combined with the 0% APR promotion.
This means that existing Tesla owners who have FSD but are planning to upgrade can transfer their FSD package to their new vehicle without having to trade in the old one, allowing for maximum flexibility in choosing how to proceed with their upgrade.
FSD Transfers vs. 0% APR Promo
One thing to note is that this FSD transfer offer cannot be combined with Tesla's current 0% APR financing promotion. While the 0% APR promo is aimed at encouraging the purchase of a new Tesla with the FSD package, FSD transfers are a separate offer and not equivalent to a new purchase of FSD. Buyers will need to weigh which incentive makes more sense for their situation—whether the appeal of interest-free financing is worth more to them than transferring their existing FSD capability.
