Tesla has begun deliveries of its Model S and Model X vehicles in the UK, but with a catch – they are left-hand-drive vehicles. To ease this transition, the automaker is including a tool called "The Reacher" with each vehicle, designed to help drivers reach the passenger window with ease.
Last month, Tesla revealed that it had ceased production of new Model S and Model X vehicles in right-hand-drive configurations. Consequently, the company stopped selling these models altogether in several smaller left-hand-drive markets, such as Australia, Singapore, and Thailand.
Instead, Tesla began to offer left-hand-drive vehicles in larger markets like the UK. This decision led to the cancellation of many orders and left prospective buyers frustrated, especially those who had been eagerly awaiting the Model S and Model X refresh for years, particularly for the top-performance Plaid variants.
Despite these challenges, UK buyers who chose to proceed with their purchases have discovered a silver lining. Each vehicle now comes with "The Reacher," a grabbing stick intended to make it easier for drivers to reach the passenger window to collect items such as parking receipts or drive-thru orders.
This solution might seem comical to some. Tesla cancelled orders and forced customers to purchase left-hand-drive Model S or Model X vehicles. However, the inclusion of a grabbing stick offers a small consolation, showing Tesla's creative, if unconventional, approach to problem-solving.
