Rivian Automotive, Inc. (NASDAQ: RIVN) has announced a partnership with Tesla to provide Rivian drivers with access to Tesla's Supercharger network across the United States and Canada. In addition to this, Rivian will continue to expand its Rivian Adventure Network.
Starting in spring 2024, an adapter will be available to facilitate charging of Rivian's R1T and R1S on the Supercharger network. The company also announced that it will include North American Charging Standard (NACS) charge ports as standard in future R1 vehicles starting in 2025, as well as in its upcoming R2 platform.
Transportation contributes to over a quarter of U.S. greenhouse gas emissions, underscoring the critical need to electrify the sector. The collaboration between Rivian and Tesla is seen as a crucial step towards broadening charging options and accelerating EV adoption.
Rebecca Tinucci, Tesla’s Senior Director of Charging Infrastructure, praised the industry-wide adoption of the North American Charging Standard, stating that this will ensure all EV drivers have access to reliable charging hardware. She expressed her eagerness to welcome Rivian owners to Tesla's Supercharger network.
