In a significant move towards charging standardization, Fisker Inc. has announced that it will adopt Tesla's North American Charging Standard (NACS) for its electric vehicles, starting in 2025. The announcement includes a deal with Tesla to provide Fisker owners with access to Tesla's extensive Supercharger network.
Fisker becomes the latest automaker to embrace NACS, following industry giants like Ford, GM, Volvo, and Mercedes. The standardization of charging connectors fosters greater charging accessibility for EV owners, simplifying the charging process.
Details of the Agreement:
Fisker's agreement with Tesla ensures that all current and future Fisker vehicles will be covered, providing additional charging options for owners. The move leverages Tesla’s 12,000 Supercharger stations across the United States and Canada.
In alignment with other automakers adopting NACS, Fisker will also provide adapters for existing EVs that utilize the CCS standard. The NACS adapter rollout for Superchargers is slated for Q1 2025, followed by updates to vehicle engineering to include an NACS inlet. A CCS adapter will also be provided to allow continuous charging with that standard.
Growing Momentum for NACS:
Tesla's push to make NACS the industry standard in North America has gained remarkable momentum in recent months. Last year, Tesla announced that it opened up its proprietary charging connector for wider adoption, aiming to simplify and streamline the charging experience for electric vehicle users.
The move by Fisker further solidifies the trend of automakers aligning with Tesla's charging standard, enhancing the infrastructure required to support the growing EV market.
