A 2019 Lucid Air prototype caught fire and was destroyed at Lucid Motors' headquarters in Newark, with the blaze also affecting two other vehicles. The fire started around 10:30 a.m. and took firefighters nearly three hours to put out.

The incident, reported in the 35000 block of Fircrest Street, saw no injuries, thanks to the prompt response from the Alameda County Fire Department, which deployed an aerial master stream to extinguish the flames. Although the cause of the fire is currently unknown, the authorities are actively investigating without a primary suspicion of arson.

A Lucid Motors spokesperson acknowledged the fire, noting that it spread to two pre-production Lucid Air cars and left a fourth with cosmetic damage. The company praised its employees and the fire department for their quick action.

Lucid Motors has stated that while they investigate the cause of the fire, they are taking steps to review and improve their vehicle storage processes to enhance safety for employees and vehicles alike.
