Pizza delivery heavyweight, Domino's, is expanding its electric vehicle (EV) fleet in the US with the addition of several hundred more 2023 Chevy Bolts.
The company had previously announced in November 2022 that it planned to put 800 Chevy Bolt EVs to work as delivery cars by the end of 2023. Now, Domino's has confirmed that it's adding an additional 300+ Chevy Bolts to its electric delivery fleet by the end of the year.
These vehicles will be used at select franchise and corporate stores across the US. With these additions, Domino's will boast a total of 1,156 EVs by the end of 2023 - making it the operator of the largest electric pizza delivery fleet in the country.
Domino's has been clear about the advantages of electric delivery fleets. Joe Jordan, Domino's President of US and Global Services, highlighted the various benefits they offer, saying, "We’re continuing to see a wide range of advantages from using EVs. In addition to business and environmental benefits, an electric delivery fleet also helps with hiring drivers, as they open up a whole new pool of job candidates who may not have their own vehicles.”
Using electric vehicles for delivery makes sense for companies like Domino's from both business and environmental perspectives. The adoption of EVs supports sustainable practices, potentially reducing operating costs related to fuel and vehicle maintenance, and expands the pool of potential employees to include those without their own vehicles.
