Chevrolet's Silverado EV distinguishes itself in the market with its enormous 200+kWh battery, which provides a range of over 450 miles, but also makes the truck weigh in at an impressive 8500 lbs. Although the large battery does affect the vehicle's weight and size, Chevrolet has managed to balance this with smooth driving dynamics.
Compared to Ford's F-150 Lightning long-range battery at 131kWh and Rivian's 135kWh battery, the Silverado's battery is significantly larger. However, the Silverado's extensive range isn't just due to its battery; it also features more efficient motors and impressive aerodynamics, contributing to its high range.
The Silverado Work Truck also includes a power station on board, similar to Ford's model, with 10.2kW of power output available across various locations in the vehicle. This allows the truck to support a wide range of uses, from towing to powering other vehicles or devices.
Pricing for the 450-mile work truck starts at $77,905, with fleet availability starting in the coming weeks. The slightly smaller battery 350+ mile Work Truck will debut at the end of the year with a $72,905 price tag. A higher-end RST First Edition will also be released at the end of the year, priced at $105K.
Chevy's Silverado has a large front trunk, or "E-trunk," which offers 10 cubic feet of storage space, with the added functionality of a plug for charging tools while the vehicle is idle or in motion.
As for charging, Chevy says the Silverado can add 100 miles of range in just 10 minutes when using fast charging at 350kW, though a full charge will still take considerable time due to the size of the battery. Home and work level 2 AC charging goes up to 80A, which could fully charge the battery in over 10 hours.
The Silverado EV is also noted for its comfortable and smooth drive, despite its weight and size, and its interior is designed with a practical and durable approach for work use. However, a controversial recent move by Chevy is to remove the phone projection feature in its EVs, although the Silverado EV Work Truck will still support CarPlay and Android Auto projection this year.
