ChargePoint has announced its plans to add the North American Charging Standard (NACS) connector to its suite of charging solutions. The technology company, which has been at the forefront of electric vehicle (EV) adoption for over 15 years, has traditionally offered multiple connector options such as CCS1, CHAdeMO, J1772, Type 2, and CCS2. However, the recent shift in industry norms towards Tesla's NACS connector has led to this new addition.
The NACS connector will soon be available on all ChargePoint products, including the Express 250 (DC), Express Plus (DC), CPF50 (AC) CP6000 (AC), and the award-winning Home Flex (AC). Moreover, the company will provide cost-effective field upgrades for existing chargers in service, thereby safeguarding the investments of existing customers.
The development of the NACS connector solutions was already underway at ChargePoint before recent industry announcements, enabling the company to offer this option ahead of many other service providers. Despite these changes, ChargePoint's product strategy remains the same: to develop networked charging solutions that ensure any EV can charge in any parking space.
The adoption of the NACS connector aligns ChargePoint with recent OEM announcements and contributes to the growing standardization of EV charging infrastructure. The company's consistent commitment to flexible and inclusive charging solutions underscores its key role in enabling the widespread adoption of electric vehicles.
