Blink Charging Gears up for Industry Shift with Tesla's Connector for New Fast Charger

June 12th

Blink Charging, a prominent manufacturer of electric vehicle (EV) charging equipment, has announced plans to introduce a fast charger featuring Tesla's connector. This move aligns with an emerging trend in the EV industry, as numerous automakers transition from the traditionally used Combined Charging System (CCS) connector to Tesla's.

Last week, General Motors echoed Ford's earlier decision to adopt Tesla's North American Charging Standard (NACS) port, a proprietary technology that's projected to command 60% of the U.S. EV market following these partnerships. Analysts at Piper Sandler project Tesla's revenue from its charging network to hit approximately $9.65 billion by 2032. Interestingly, they predict over half of this revenue will be generated by other EV manufacturers utilizing the network.

Blink's forthcoming direct current (DC) fast charger will support both NACS and CCS connectors. The new model, currently in its final design phase, was unveiled at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2023. Following this announcement, Blink’s shares experienced a 1.2% surge, reaching $6.03 in premarket trading.

In a statement, Blink Charging expressed its views on the EV industry's evolving landscape: "Given recent announcements by Tesla, GM, and Ford, we are clearly witnessing the continued evolution of the EV charging industry as technologies advance and industry stakeholders come together and evaluate best practices."

These developments point towards an accelerating convergence of charging technologies within the EV sector. With the growing acceptance of Tesla's connector standards, a unified, user-friendly charging network is on the horizon, potentially simplifying and enhancing the overall EV ownership experience.
